International Airport Terminal Expansion
SHRIVER
AND HOLLAND ASSOCIATES
Twenty-five
years after Shriver and Holland Associates' implementation of the airport's
original "Airport in a Garden" expansion development plan, a new 266,000 SF,
Phase 1 expansion of the main passenger air terminal complex now provides capacity
into 2015 with improved passenger service and compete all-weather protection
from aircraft to parking. The design includes a new Arrivals Terminal Building
along the eastern face of the existing and new parking structures, and a 360
LF pedestrian bridge connection to the existing main terminal building. Main
terminal baggage claim areas were converted to expanded passenger departure
processing areas as baggage claim functions are now increased and relocated
within the new Arrivals Terminal. Roadway and parking facility expansion handle
increased passenger vehicular flow. Planning anticipates extension of a future
light rail link to the airport terminal to connect with the Arrivals Terminal
Building.
