  SHRIVER AND HOLLAND ASSOCIATES
At the request of Virginia Beach City Public Schools, Shriver and Holland Associates was commissioned to develop a design development study for a "Prototypical Elementary School" with core facilities for 800 students and adaptable to three different sites. The study included floor plan and site plan development, elevation and color/materials development, building and engineering systems development, construction cost estimates, and other documents to fix and describe the size and character of the entire project. Based upon this study, Linkhorn Park Elementary School is a prototype design organized with a square circulation pattern serving three clustered classroom wings housing a total of 32 general classrooms, special education classrooms, teachers workrooms and restrooms. Each classroom wing, along with the media center, computer lab, gymnasium, cafetorium and commons are positioned around an interior courtyard. This brings natural lighting into all of the major public areas and helps to create a positive
