  SHRIVER AND HOLLAND ASSOCIATES
The engineering infill is a research and teaching facility that includes laboratories, lecture rooms, a computer center, a study lounge and offices. The north facade of the project, conceived as a neutral gas aperture, addresses the problem of infilling between two existing buildings of contrasting styles and materials and uniting the departments of engineering and engineering technology previously housed in separate structures. Through the glass aperture students from within the building can view the campus mall to the north from two levels. Conversely students from the mall can view into the north atrium space within the space-frame structure providing a dramatic expression of the space within. The placement of the building also reinforces a major pedestrian circulation route when which travels east to west along the southern edge of the campus wall. The brick and buff metal curtain wall system of the south facade is compatible with both adjacent structures.
