Virginia Marine Science Museum
The Virginia Marine Science Museum is located on a 20-acre site bordering Owl's Creek and is designed as a marine science and environmental educational center. The building includes 45,000 gallons of aquarium tanks capable of displaying live marine exhibits in environments similar to their natural habitat. As the principal architect, Shriver and Holland Associates was directly responsible for all aspects of the final design and coordination of this museum complex. Working with associated architects, E. Verner Johnson Associates, and exhibit designers from the Sea Research Foundation, Shriver and Holland Associates provided the project leadership for cost control, scheduling, design and contract administration, and developed the final design documentation for the final exhibits, habitat and support systems design. In addition, Shriver and Holland provided the master plan and site design development, shoreline stabilization, and wetlands preservation for the facility.
